The Hunger Games

So I read The Hunger Games yesterday, and absolutely fell in love with it. It’s still giving me warm fuzzy feelings just thinking about it. I know that I’m way behind since everyone and their dog has already read it, but I can’t help it. That’s what summer to-do lists are for after all!

When I read the first few pages, I didn’t know whether I was going to like it, but I was hooked by the end of chapter two. Halfway through, I was crying in my hostel room and smiling in amazement. Collins’ work helped to remind me why I love writing YA Fantasy and Sci-Fi. She has an amazing mind for storytelling and a straightforward style and subtle control that blows me away. I’ve always said that language is important, but The Hunger Games was a reminder of what a good story can do to me. It catches me and refuses to let go. It haunts me. It settles in my stomach with a flutter that feels an awful lot like love.

I promised myself to read a lot of YA this summer, as it is, after all, my genre. After this piece, I’m itching for more.

In other news, I did a little bit of editing around the blog. Cut a couple of links and added a few more, including Mariah Irvin’s Blog. I’m looking to become blog-buddies with more young writers, since I find myself lacking these connections and really wanting them, so if you’re interested in some linkage, or know of other cool blogs by teen writers, drop me a note!

I also added an about page, and may put up a bookshelf or something. If there’s anything you want to see on the site, just let me know.

Also, this new book printing press sounds like good news for both hard copies and small bookstores. And I love me some small bookstores.
